Every journey begins with a single step, and this is the first of mine.
I've always been someone who loved to create. Art, stories, songs, games. I knew at a young age that I wanted to become a writer and by the end of the tenth grade, I had completed my first novel. But then I had to think about college, a career, making money, and becoming an adult. I put aside my dreams of becoming an author and focused instead on becoming a journalist.
I still took creative writing courses in college and joined a writing club because although I enjoyed my journalism classes, I was nervous about trying to make a career out of it. I knew I didn't want to be on TV or the radio or write for newspapers. Magazine writing is a super niche industry, and I wasn't willing to move to either coast, so I struggled with finding exactly what I wanted to do. I began to turn away from writing and explored graphic design and editing. After college, I landed a full time gig working as an editorial assistant but soon after decided to move closer to home where the living was cheaper and the job market was (hopefully) better. I won't bore you with the details since, but now I'm like many adults in America: working full time and dreaming about doing something I absolutely love.
Which brings me here. Over the past couple years, I've realized more and more that writing fiction is truly what I enjoy and I'm determined to make time to pursue it.
Every journey begins with a single step in one direction, and this website is me taking that first step. The publishing world is not like it used to be and authors, even of big name publishers, are expected to build a following and do a lot of marketing themselves. I don't have any fiction published outside of college literary journals, so I know I don't have a lot to offer you, a visitor to this site or to this post. But what I can offer you is a chance to follow along on my journey. I will share what it's like trying to find time and inspiration to write, the lessons learned, the insight gained, the grueling process of querying, and hopefully, eventually, a professionally published work.
Throughout my writing journey, I'll post here about a myriad of topics. Some related to writing and others not. I can be followed on social media if tweets and pictures are more your thing rather than reading paragraphs of text. I'm exploring the platform Wattpad, and there you can read a novella that's in the works. I'll be releasing one chapter at a time until it's complete. And finally, you can sign up to receive a quarterly newsletter.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and explore my website. I hope that you will consider connecting with me in some way and following along for at least some parts of this journey. I would love the company.
